I watched this film for the first time about 7 years ago, at a screening for my documentary film class at university. Seeing it on a huge cinema screen with live piano music was instantly electrifying and I understood why this film is a masterpiece of cinema. It was much later, that I discovered the score from The Cinematic Orchestra. It is an intoxicating hymn and I’m still amazed how well it works with the film as by itself.

If you want to experience the film with live piano accompaniment, check out the schedule of Babylon Mitte cinema, they show it on a regular basis.

zehnuhr:

Man with a Movie Camera

As you may know the russian silent documentary film ‘The Man with the movie camera’ by Dziga Vertov is one of the most important films in the history of world cinema. In 2000 The Cinematic Orchestra was asked to play a compatible live performance to accompany the screening at the Porto Film Festival.

Until today I didn’t know that their whole album was a featured work especially for this movie. Now everything fits more and more. You have to look at this wonderful piece of cinematic art in combination with the music.

I watched this a little while back (with the Cinematic Orchestra score) and it is indeed amazing. You’re seeing the birth of quite a few editing techniques in this film! If you start watching it, keep going until it kicks in, there’s a couple of minutes of silence first.

DEAR SOUTHERN PEOPLE

seagull:

awesome-everyday:

You do not “Fix” dinner.

You make dinner. You cook dinner. You prepare dinner.

It is not broken. You needn’t repair it.

I will manipulate the English language however I damn please because I fucking can. Where’s the fun in homogenization?

Jesus Christ, is today the day for people whining about other people’s behaviors or what? I am totally guilty of this, but shit. I’m making an effort to stop now thanks to all of you over-whiners.

Totally agreed. Regional variation is not only inevitable, but wonderful too.
Featuring a mix of jazz charts, DJ culture touches, and soundtrack-level layers of sound, Cinematic Orchestra’s Remixes 1998-2000 includes seven reconfigurations of electronica gems from the likes of Kenji Eno, DJ Krust, and Piero Umilani. Atop their own core sound of bass, drums, and keyboards, the band deftly mixes in samples from the original tracks. The result is a loose-sounding mix of lengthy wide-screen pieces, which conjure up thoughts of Henry Mancini, John Barry, Jah Wobble, DJ Spooky, Herbie Hancock, and King Tubby. A fine disc for the sophisticated electronica fan.
