…but fuck me, what a fucking nauseating article. It’s not the anti-Apple thing at all – I don’t care about that argument one bit. I like Apple’s products and way of doing things (in general), but that’s just like, my opinion, man.
It’s all this whining about how it was all so very sexist. The trigger phrase appears to have been “So, what are you girls doing here?”. My standard test for this kind of thing is to switch the nouns/pronouns around and trying it out: “So, what are you guys doing here?”. Sounds fine to me, but apparently Violet has a major bee in her bonnet, and proceeds to act like a seventeen-year-old who’s just discovered feminism and has misunderstood it as some male-bashing war.
Feminism, surely, should be about equality, not jumping on men for the merest hint of gender differentiation. And believe me, I am all for equality. I hate the idea (and reality) of male dominance. I consider myself a feminist. But to be an absolute prick about it is not the way.
Even if this guy’s tone-of-voice let him down and it sounded condescending (something that the article didn’t enlighten us on before jumping to its conclusions, but a distinct possibility, I’ll grant you), the way to counter that is to play it straight. Talk about what you’re good at, tech or not, and let him talk about his talents. This is called a “grown-up conversation”. Then, maybe, if he had an undertone of sexism before he’d become more enlightened through his new-found respect. Now, surely, as he learns he was just being fucked around with, he will lose respect.
The later issue with her Android phone just sounds like some playful ribbing. Seriously. Again, let’s reverse things here: if a guy had blogged about someone else mildly mocking his choice of mobile phone, should he have expected anyone to bat an eyelid? I don’t think so.
Oh well.
